Laurence Shiekman, who has made recommendations on which expert witnesses to hire for trials, was the first witness to take the stand Tuesday. He said he would refrain from hiring Klein as an expert witness following his involuntary administrative leave and UCLA Anderson School of Management Dean Antonio Bernardo’s “troubling” and “suggestive” email announcement.

Shiekman added that the email Klein sent regarding accommodations for Black students alone – without Bernardo’s public announcement and Klein’s subsequent administrative leave – would not have impacted his ability to be hired.
