The sole candidate for the Undergraduate Students Association Council Campus Events commissioner pledged to improve student access to experiencing Los Angeles during a debate Wednesday.
The USA Elections Board and the Daily Bruin co-hosted a series of debates between candidates in the upcoming USAC election. One candidate, Daniel Leal, is running for the position of Campus Events Commissioner.

Leal, the current director of public relations in the Campus Events Commission, said he wanted to give students the LA experience for which they committed to UCLA by hosting film screenings, facilitating speaker events and expanding Bruin Bash. Becoming director of public relations last year made Leal more passionate about the Campus Events Commission, he added.
Leal also said he hopes to continue growing Bruin Bash so that it can appeal to as many people as possible, something he said was important because it is students’ first impression of campus life.
“It’s freshmen’s first real impression of UCLA,” said Leal, a third-year neuroscience student. “I want it to be a concert where everybody wants to go.”
Leal added that he would hold more festival-type events that highlight students’ talents and student vendors.
In his closing statement, Leal said he values the Campus Events Commission and is excited to hold events.
“I take this position very seriously and the responsibility that comes with it very seriously,” he said. “I have been passionate about this commission ever since I joined as a freshman.”
Students can vote in the election on MyUCLA from 8 a.m. May 9 until noon May 16.
