The Undergraduate Students Association Council approved the calendar and candidate requirements for its 2025 elections Tuesday.
Voting for the council’s annual election will take place from 8 a.m. May 9 until noon May 16, according to the calendar approved by the council, which also states that election results will be announced at 7 p.m. May 16. Candidate debates will be held at 7 p.m. April 30 and May 1, according to the calendar.
Candidates must submit a petition for candidacy – including signatures from undergraduate students – to the USA Elections Board by March 14, according to the candidate packet approved by the council. According to the USA Election Code, candidates must obtain at least 50 signatures from undergraduate students to be eligible to run for a position on the council.
Candidates and their campaign representatives must also attend an orientation April 2, according to the calendar. Online campaigning begins April 9, while on-campus leafleting will be permitted April 21-25 and weekdays from May 5-15.
Ballot propositions and candidate statements must both be filed with the council by April 7. Previous ballot propositions included the successful referendum to fund Universal Access Transit Passes using student fees in 2023 and the failed Establishing Meaningful Bruin Resources, Activities, Community & Experiences referendum in 2024, which would have doubled the student union fee.
Elections must be held between the fifth and seventh week of spring quarter, according to the USA Election Code. The 2024 USAC elections were originally slated to be held May 3 to May 10, 2024, but were postponed one week following the counter-protester attack on the first Palestine solidarity encampment at UCLA.
