Some Westwood residents lost power twice Saturday.

Residents living on Glenrock Avenue, Levering Avenue and Midvale Avenue reported power outages beginning around 2:10 p.m., with power still out as of 3:35 p.m. Some also previously reported brief power outages around 10:35 a.m. but said service was brought back quickly.

Power was restored to buildings on Levering Avenue, Glenrock Avenue and Midvale Avenue around 5 p.m., according to a student living in a university apartment.

Crews were aware of the outage and working on restoring power as quickly and as safely as possible, said a representative for the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, which provides electricity in Westwood, around 3:05 p.m.

A UCLA spokesperson also said they were looking into the issue but did not provide comment on when power would return.

Although UCLA is aware of the outage, they initially did not have an estimated time for resumption of electricity service, a University Housing spokesperson said in a 3:08 p.m. email to residents of Glenrock University Apartment buildings. Students were advised to avoid opening their refrigerators when possible and avoid using the elevators, they added.

“Maintenance and LADWP are aware of the situation and will be working to address this,” the spokesperson said in the email. “Your presence is not required during the work, and there will be no entry into your apartment.”

The outage comes after several days of rain in Westwood.

Some electricity lines were turned off in response to a tree trimmer being caught in power lines, with the LA Fire Department rescuing the trimmer, ABC7 reported Saturday morning. However, only pole-to-house lines were de-energized in response to the incident according to the LAFD website, and an LAFD spokesperson said they did not know if the incident was related to the Glenrock power outage.

The Daily Bruin was unable to confirm a cause for the outages.
