An evacuation warning adjacent to the UCLA campus was lifted around 1:40 p.m., according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection website.

The nearest evacuation warning area to campus is now west of Interstate 405. The warning that bordered campus had been in place since around 7:20 p.m. on Jan. 10 and reached the corner of Sunset Boulevard and Bellagio Road – an intersection near campus dorms and across from the Krieger Center, a UCLA Early Care and Education Center.

A fire in the Pacific Palisades that began Jan. 7 and has since burned nearly 24,000 acres prompted the warning near campus and evacuation orders in areas including Malibu, the Pacific Palisades and Brentwood.

Over a week of fires in Los Angeles County have burned nearly 40,000 acres and claimed 27 lives as of Friday afternoon, according to the LA County Department of Medical Examiner.

As of 3 p.m. Friday, no evacuation warning or order has included the UCLA campus throughout the duration of the fires. Students received information regarding protocol for a possible evacuation from the UCLA administrators and the Office of Emergency Management following the Jan. 10 evacuation warning.

Air quality on the UCLA campus is rated as “good,” according to the UCLA air quality website as of 3 p.m. Friday.

UCLA is set to resume in-person classes Tuesday following a move to completely remote instruction since Jan. 13, Chancellor Julio Frenk announced in a Thursday email.
