Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has appointed Steve Soboroff to superintend the city’s recovery from fires that have swept Los Angeles County, according to a press release from Unified L.A. Although fire conditions are expected to return next week, less hazardous weather is expected over the weekend.

“The National Weather Services reports calm weather is expected through the weekend for the City of Los Angeles,” Unified L.A. said in the press release. “Current forecasts predict Santa Ana winds and potentially dangerous fire conditions to return starting next week.”

Some areas that had been evacuated because of the Palisades fire, which has spread 23,713 acres since Jan. 7 and is 39% contained, are now being repopulated, according to the press release. There are no evacuation warnings or notice for the UCLA campus and classes are expected to resume in-person Tuesday.
