In opening statements, the defense noted Rodriguez’s 25 years at ECE Krieger Center. They argued the December 15th incident involved a student asking for a “light massage” and that Rodriguez removed himself when asked. The defense alleged ulterior motives from the parents, planning to have a psychologist testify about parental influence on children’s testimonies. They ended their statement noting a lack of evidence for Rodriguez allegedly “hitting kids with a stick.”
