Another beaming Bruin Bash is in the cards.
This year’s annual back-to-school concert will be headlined by rapper and singer Doechii, as announced by event organizers UCLA Campus Events Commission and Cultural Affairs Commission on Sunday afternoon. After weeks of buzz fueled by slick Las Vegas and casino-themed promos, the two organizations finally unveiled the opening artists on Saturday – a high-stakes lineup featuring breakout stars 310babii and thủy. While the event’s last several iterations were staged in the Los Angeles Tennis Center, Bruin Bash will return to the larger capacity of Pauley Pavilion for the first time since 2019 at 7 p.m. Monday.
Rapper 310babii was the first opener announced. The 18-year-old artist made waves when his 2023 single “soak city (do it)” went viral across social media platforms, resulting in his reception of both a platinum plaque and high school diploma at his graduation ceremony this June. The next week, he took the stage of Inglewood’s renowned Kia Forum to join hip-hop icon Kendrick Lamar’s Juneteenth celebration, “The Pop Out: Ken & Friends.” After his Pauley performance, 310babii will join a star-studded lineup of artists at Rolling Loud, the world’s largest hip-hop festival, later this year.
The opener announced second, 32-year-old thủy, is a pop R&B singer-songwriter boasting over 4 million monthly listeners on Spotify. The title track of her 2022 EP “girls like me don’t cry” quickly rose to global TikTok fame and even earned a number 9 spot on the Billboard Vietnam Hot 100. No stranger to big stages, thủy became the first Vietnamese-American to solo Coachella this April. Her third project “wings,” releasing Oct. 4, will be followed by an accompanying tour of Australia, New Zealand and Asia.
Announced the day prior to Bruin Bash, 26-year-old hip-hop artist Doechii will headline the concert. The performance will not be her first time on a UCLA stage, as the “What It Is” rapper opened for the UCLA Hip Hop Congress’ Hip Hop Explosion in 2022. The Tampa local’s discography has featured hit collaborations with artists such as Kodak Black, Janelle Monáe and most recently Katy Perry on the Sept. 13 release “I’M HIS, HE’S MINE.” She also supported Grammy-winner Doja Cat on her “The Scarlet Tour” last year. Doechii’s headlining set on Monday will precede her upcoming international “Alligator Bites Never Heal Tour,” sharing a name with her 19-track mixtape which released Aug. 30.
Bruin Bash floor tickets first went on sale via the UCLA Central Ticketing Office website last Monday, followed by sales for bowl levels 100 and 200. Tickets are no longer available online at this time.
