Dear reader,

At the end of each quarter, we usually present you with PRIME magazine – a collection of long-form features, columns and art-forward stories highlighting overlooked voices on UCLA’s campus. However, you won’t find any magazines on newsstands this week. 

Our team has reconfigured the Spring 2024 issue into a gradual rollout of our magazine’s stories. Bringing PRIME to life always requires time-intensive collaboration across the paper’s sections. Over the course of the past quarter, many of these sections have dedicated their bandwidth to essential coverage of the Palestine solidarity encampment, the ensuing police sweep and the United Auto Workers Local 4811 strike, among other events. Spacing out PRIME’s stories allows us to proactively mitigate newsroom burnout while helping the Daily Bruin focus on the events that mattered most to students.

Instead of the physical magazine, you can find PRIME’s stories individually released in the print newspaper and online. For example, PRIME writers Alicia Carhee and Sam Mulick co-wrote an in-depth profile of fourth-year student Poom Yoodee, a former Undergraduate Students Association Council presidential candidate who now co-owns his family restaurant. Most recently, Daily Bruin Editor-in-chief Isabelle Friedman investigated news publications’ struggle to keep up with young adults’ shifting media consumption habits. 

As the UCLA community transitions into summer, look forward to a steady stream of the remaining PRIME articles. From a cutting-edge feature on local psychedelics research to a retrospective examination of the Hammer Museum’s Poetry Series, we are thrilled to share our upcoming stories with you.
