McClendon, Cremonesi join potential outgoing Bruins with transfer portal entrances

The revolving door of the Bruins’ roster is continuing to spin.

The latest rotation has another scholarship player on his way out.

UCLA men’s basketball redshirt sophomore guard Will McClendon entered the transfer portal Thursday afternoon, according to 247Sports national basketball director Eric Bossi. The 3-point specialist spent three seasons with the Bruins but didn’t play during the 2021-2022 campaign after tearing his ACL before the year began.

McClendon massively improved his shooting from beyond the arc this season, nearly quintupling his 3-point percentage after making just two triples on 28 attempts in his first year back from injury. In the 2023-2024 season, however, he became the team’s second-best deep threat, posting a 35.4% mark from distance on 79 attempts.

Even still, McClendon averaged just 4.1 points per game while playing 21 minutes per contest and making four starts. Overall, he shot 33.9% from the field, converting 31.3% of his two-point field goals. As a facilitator, McClendon recorded 35 assists – the most of any nonstarter.

McClendon’s decision comes in the wake of freshman guard Ilane Fibleuil entering the transfer portal Tuesday, which was followed by former Louisville guard Skyy Clark and former USC guard Kobe Johnson announcing their commitments to UCLA on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively.

And McClendon and Fibleuil aren’t the only Bruins in the portal.

Former walk-on Logan Cremonesi is also leaving his options open to transfer as a graduate student, according to Verbal Commits. The redshirt junior forward appeared in three games this season, earning a start in UCLA’s home game against Arizona State as part of the Bruins’ senior day celebrations – something coach Mick Cronin has historically done for all of his graduating players.

Cremonesi also entered the transfer portal in 2022 but remained at UCLA.

While none of Fibleuil, McClendon or Cremonesi are guaranteed to be leaving, Cronin would free up one more scholarship should the former two both depart.
