Crimewatch: March 2024

UCPD recorded 633 unique entries in its March daily crime log.

University police received 105 crime reports in March that resulted in active police cases.

Of the 105 crime reports resulting in cases, 51 were open cases and 54 were closed or inactive as of April 1, according to the UCPD crime and fire log.

Theft and burglary was the most common category, with 44 reports resulting in cases, followed by 11 reports of drugs and controlled substances, according to the log.

UCPD also recorded 528 events that did not result in active cases, with the following statuses as of April 1:

Detail handled: no report: 132

Report taken: 48

Information only: 56

Non-criminal matter: 90

Warned or advised: 21

Canceled (by any party): 80

Victim not desirous of report: 17

Referred to outside agency: 34

Unable to locate: 42

Field interviewed: 6

Courtesy report: 2

Citation issued: 1

Unfounded: 3

Of the 528 incidents not resulting in cases, 14 were categorized as rape or other sex crimes. UCPD categorized seven events as rape reports, zero as sexual battery reports and seven as indecent exposure reports.

Data for this story was obtained as a public record under the Jeanne Clery Act, which requires universities to report campus crime data.
