Crimewatch: October 2023

UCPD recorded 767 unique entries in its Oct. 1 to 31 daily crime log.

138 of those crime reports resulted in active police cases.

Of the 138 crime reports resulting in cases, 79 were open cases and 59 were closed or inactive as of Tuesday, according to the UCPD crime and fire log.

Theft and burglary was the most common category, with 68 reports resulting in cases — followed by 18 reports of traffic and vehicular incidents, according to the log.

UCPD also recorded 629 events that did not result in active cases, with the following statuses as of Tuesday.

Detail handled: no report: 157

Report taken: 75

Information only: 55

Non-criminal matter: 128

Warned or advised: 32

Canceled (by any party): 71

Victim not desirous of report: 24

Referred to outside agency: 27

Unable to locate: 40

Field interviewed: 7

Courtesy report: 6

Citation issued: 0

Unfounded: 3

Of the 629 incidents not resulting in cases, seven were categorized as rape or other sex crimes. UCPD categorized three events as rape reports, two as sexual battery reports and two as indecent exposure reports.

Data for this story was obtained as public record under the Jeanne Clery Act, which requires universities to report campus crime data.
