Marina Meyjes, a first-year Middle Eastern studies student, sported a vintage, red ringer T-shirt with a white Nike logo and collar. She bought her top from Topshop on Oxford Street in England and cut the sleeves and bottom to crop it. Meyjes said she prefers vintage athletic styles as opposed to more modern pieces. “I think sometimes you can look like you’re just going to the gym when you’re wearing the contemporary athletic wear, so I think the vintage and original styles are interesting,” she said.
Third-year applied mathematics student Taylor Fischer wore track pants from Forever 21, paired with a flowy peach halter top she bought in Venice Beach. She said she typically strives for a casual look offset by a fancier top. Fischer bought her pants in three different colors, including light pink, which she likes to pair with her normally black wardrobe, she said. “I like this look because it’s still put-together but also just really comfortable and really easy to walk around campus in, especially when it’s super hot like this.”
Mariana Estrada was dressed head-to-toe in American Apparel. The third-year English student donned a pastel-pink wrap top with bright-red gym shorts. She matched her shorts with her red-and-white striped socks – which she has in every color – peeking out over her Nike Air Force 1 High Tops. Estrada said she is not an athletic person, but likes to look like she goes to the gym, preferring her airy short-shorts to uncomfortable skinny jeans.
Desiree Martin, a second-year physiological science student, wore Adidas track pants – a style she’s been sporting since her high school soccer days. Although she doesn’t play the sport as frequently as she used to, she still enjoys the comfort and feel of the pants, she said. Martin added she likes her track pants better than regular sweatpants because they’re still a stylish option.
