Associated Students UCLA is a multimillion-dollar organization that provides for student services and activities that the university does not fund and oversees the Undergraduate Students Association Council, Graduate Students Association, Communications Board and campus services and enterprises. The services committee meeting takes place every month and focuses on evaluating the services provided by the association, specifically the association’s facilities.

Executive director’s report

  • Robert Williams, the executive director of ASUCLA, said prices of textbooks will be displayed on the textbook website in the future.
  • He said most students assume textbooks from other companies are cheaper than the UCLA textbook store. He said he thought students would give the UCLA textbook store a chance if the prices were listed online.
  • Williams added that he is uncertain whether the textbook store would continue to match the price of textbooks that are sold for cheaper through other companies.

Action and Discussion Items

  • The undergraduate student government General Representative 2 office presented a proposal for a nondenominational prayer and meditation space on campus. The presenters said a room in Kerckhoff Hall or Ackerman Union would be ideal, since those are central locations on campus.
  • The presenters suggest a four- or five-year plan to establish a permanent prayer and meditation place on campus.
  • The ASUCLA board members decided on 20 student finalists for the T-Shirt design contest.
