High school students charged with murder
plot
BELLFLOWER “”mdash; Two teenage students were charged with
conspiracy to murder teachers and students at St. John Bosco High
School as part of what may have been a planned Columbine-style
massacre at the Catholic school, authorities said.
The 15- and 17-year-old boys pleaded not guilty March 10, Deputy
District Attorney Brenda Burns said Monday. They return March 24
for a Juvenile Court hearing.
The 11th graders, whose names weren’t released because of
their ages, allegedly prepared a map of the school with places to
plant bombs and another for a shopping trip to look at shotguns,
the prosecutor said.
Principal Patrick Lee said he couldn’t comment on the
case.
City fights area code change
EL SEGUNDO “”mdash; Local officials are again fighting a 310
telephone area code overlay that would add a 424 area code for new
telephone numbers.
Rep. Jane Harman (D-El Segundo), Assemblyman Mike Gordon (D-El
Segundo), and Los Angeles County Supervisor Don Knabe announced
Monday they are banding together to fight the latest proposal by
telecommunications companies to create more numbers in the 310
area.
Telephone companies have tried for seven years to split the 310
area. This time, they want a 424 overlay for any new telephone
numbers in the 310 zone. The overlay wouldn’t occur until
number “˜”˜exhaust can no longer be
avoided,” the telecommunications firms said.
