The Daily Bruin won second place in General Newspaper Excellence and General Website Excellence, and first place for Best Overall Design in the 2011-2012 California College Media Association Excellence in Student Media awards on Saturday.
The Bruin won 23 awards for newspapers, news websites and magazines.
UCLA student media adviser Amy Emmert also won the Educator of the Year award from the California Journalism Education Coalition.
The Daily Bruin won a Pacemaker for the nation’s best college daily newspaper and seven other national awards today at the annual ACP/CMA college media convention.
Matt Stevens won first place for Reporter of the Year for his work on the 2010 Bridget O’Brien scholarship project ““Over and Back”:http://overandback.dailybruin.com/,” an investigation of basketball recruiting in Cameroon.
“Over and Back” also won first place for Multimedia News Feature for the online package created by Stevens, Millie Tran and Maya Sugarman.
Claire Byun and Sean Greene took third for Newspaper Page/Spread Design.
Steven Kapp stared intently at the ground before him as he talked, avoiding eye contact and choosing his words carefully.
