LET’S ACT! candidate John Joanino was narrowly elected undergraduate student government president in a runoff vote, and will lead a council dominated by Bruins United, the slate that has held a majority for three years.
The screaming crowd in front of Kerckhoff Hall grew silent Thursday night when it was announced that Taylor Bazley, the Bruin Alliance slate presidential candidate in this year’s undergraduate student government elections, was eliminated from the running.
The Bruins United slate claimed six of the council seats, while LET’S ACT! secured four seats and Bruin Alliance did not receive any seats. There will be three independents on council next year.
The complaint, which former Undergraduate Students Association Council General Representative Jason Smith filed today, alleged that members of the Bruins United slate went to sorority houses Monday and passed around a laptop for students to vote with a list of the slate’s candidates.
