Every year, the summer movie season offers a host of big-budget, popcorn-popping blockbuster movies. Last week, “Jurassic World” smashed box office records by becoming the first film to take in $1 billion in just 13 days.

L.A. summers are typically associated with sunshine, endless hours browsing through Netflix and lazy beach days. But removed from the coast and beyond Westwood are notable events in Los Angeles that combat the summer lull. 

The start of summer is usually a signal for new albums to be released just in time for music festivals. Highly anticipated releases such as Frank Ocean’s long-awaited “Boys Don’t Cry” are set to drop in the sunny interlude between spring quarter finals and zero week of fall quarter, a time when many students take a break from studying to jam out.
