Diego Bollo is passionate about amplifying student perspectives and improving student experiences.

Bollo promised in his campaign to invest in student needs, advocate for students to university administrators and protect and expand diversity, equity and inclusion. And he has been mostly successful.
Bollo said he met biweekly with Steve Lurie, the associate vice chancellor for campus and community safety. He has also met with members of the Office of the President and administrative vice chancellor Michael Beck.
These leaders are key decision makers on issues like campus policing and tuition hikes, and Bollo’s dedication to communicating regularly highlights his passion for student perspective advocacy. He said his greatest achievement so far is joining the UCLA Faculty Association and the UC unions in filing an amicus brief while bringing in student experiences and voices.
While Bollo is keen to communicate with administrators, his communication with the students he represents leaves room for improvement. He said he meets regularly with student groups, but was less enthusiastic when asked about his officer reports.
“I think I have done a whatever job,” Bollo said.
Bollo has also struggled to make concrete strides toward fulfilling his campaign promises. Last year, the UC eliminated its Department of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in October. In November, the UC Board of Regents approved tuition raises for future students.
Bollo’s efforts to improve the student experience is impressive – greater transparency and an increased focus on measurable impact as USAC president would round out an accomplished tenure.
