The Daily Bruin covers breaking news relevant to the UCLA community as it happens. This page is covering UCLA football’s annual crosstown showdown against USC, providing live updates all night long.
Well, folks, it’s time to sign off.
The Rose Bowl is completely vacated. Bruin fans embarked on a hour-long journey back to Westwood – I can’t imagine those rides were much fun after tonight’s 19-13 crushing loss. Trojan fans, meanwhile, must be waltzing their way back to University Park. The Victory Bell will in fact take up residence at USC for another year at least.
We’ve been live for about eight hours now – so, truly, thank you all for following along. It’s been a pleasure to provide you live updates all night long, and we hope this feed provided you everything you needed to feel part of all the action.
Good night from the Rose Bowl. Thank you.

As the Rose Bowl despondently empties out and the press box silences, full of reporters desperately trying to file their stories and get to bed, we’ve got our full gamer of tonight’s action ready for your perusal.
It takes the angle of redshirt junior wide receiver J.Michael Sturdivant unleashing his roar – after a lackluster season teeming with zero-reception outings – but the Bruins’ let the wideout’s big-time plays go futile.
Have a read for not just the stats and facts – but also the color and emotion you need from tonight’s game.

In the end, the blame falls largely upon the offense. Thirteen points are simply not enough to win at this level. Going 3-11 on third down and 0-3 on fourth down isn’t enough.
Chants of “UCLA sucks” are now filling the Rose Bowl as dejected Bruin fans file out of the stadium, the hopes of a bowl game finally crushed after glimmers of hope over the past weeks. While the chances were slim, the hope was still there, as the team fought back from a 1-5 start to remain competitive.
With a now-meaningless game next week against Fresno State, the season is effectively over for UCLA.
USC edges past UCLA 19-13 to clinch bowl eligibility and bring the Victory Bell to University Park.
Story to come.
On his own 35, Garbers drops back to pass.
Looking down the field, he scrambles to his right.
Unable to find anything with USC pressure bearing down upon him, the redshirt senior tosses a pass in the direction of tight end Moliki Matavao, where it sails over his head, incomplete.
Fans are leaving the Rose Bowl. The game is now over.

After two incomplete passes, the Bruins find themselves at a third-and-10 with two minutes left to go.
We are looking at the last chance for UCLA.
UCLA holds USC to a field goal, but that still means the Trojans are up by six.
The Bruins will get the ball on their own 25-yard line with 2:09 left to play.
This is most likely Garbers and Bruins’ last chance at winning this game, or at the very least, taking us to overtime.
DeShaun Foster elects to use UCLA’s first timeout with 2:21 left on the clock and USC on the UCLA 15-yard line.
Trojans lead by three with a second-and-8 on their hands.
On fourth down on its own 34, UCLA attempted a quarterback sneak, with redshirt senior signal-caller Ethan Garbers taking the ball straight up the middle.
Garbers was unable to reach the line to gain as the Trojan defensive front held strong, giving USC the ball back with only 4:59 to play and a 3-point lead.
This time he wouldn’t be sacked.
This time USC wouldn’t be held at the goal line.
Scrambling like a madman, Jayden Maiava went back-and-forth across the 10-yard line before firing a bullet towards wide reciever Ja’Kobi Lane in the corner of the end zone.
USC takes a 16-13 advantage after the extra point with 6:55 left to play.
