UCLA baseball’s Sunday starter for the majority of the past three seasons – junior right-hander Landon Stump – has entered the transfer portal, On3 reported Saturday morning.

Stump lost his spot in the weekend rotation after a 2.2-inning start May 10 against Oregon – his only return to the bullpen since first slotting in as UCLA’s Sunday starter March 12, 2024.

Freshman right-hander Angel Cervantes, the No. 50 overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft,  assumed the Sunday role for the remainder of the season, boasting a 3.38 ERA across three starts, totaling 13.1 innings – including five shutout innings against Oregon in the Big Ten Tournament title game May 24.

Stump posted a 5.23 ERA across 179 innings and 42 starts in his three seasons in Westwood. He authored arguably his best campaign in 2026, with a career-low 4.12 ERA and 3.62 BB/9, but also finished the year tossing 20.9 fewer frames than his 2025 output.

Stump was the No. 144 player and No. 42 right-hander coming out of high school in 2023, per Perfect Game. He notched his single-game-high of eight strikeouts in March 2024 against Long Beach State, tossed four shutout frames against UTSA in the 2025 NCAA Los Angeles Super Regional and finished 2026 with eight scoreless innings across his five relief appearances – with two coming in regionals.

The Morgan Hill, California, local is the fourth Bruin to enter the portal, joining redshirt junior outfielder Payton Brennan, senior right-hander Jack O’Connor and redshirt junior southpaw Chris Grothues. Grothues announced his commitment to Long Beach State on June 12 via Instagram.

With Stump likely out the door, junior right-hander Logan Reddemann favored to go in the 2026 MLB Draft and senior right-hander Michael Barnett out of eligibility, the Bruins will need a completely different weekend rotation than the one they began with last season.

Cervantes and sophomore right-hander Wylan Moss, who made six starts last season after Reddemann was shut down with arm fatigue in April, are both slated to return to Westwood this fall.

Cervantes is currently playing for the Chatham Anglers in the Cape Cod Baseball League while Moss is with the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team.

Coach John Savage has also said freshman right-hander Zach Strickland and sophomore right-hander Easton Hawk – the Bruins’ closer since 2025 – could land in the weekend rotation as they develop.

Both Strickland and Hawk are also with the USA Baseball CNT this summer.

The Bruins’ only reported transfer-portal addition is Creighton outfielder Isaac Wachsmann, who posted his decision Sunday on X.
