“I may not know the answer to your question, but I sure as heck know who does.”

I’ve proudly said that countless times over the last year.

When I started as a Sports intern at the Daily Bruin, all I wanted was to soak up and learn as much as I possibly could – about The Bruin, journalism, sports, UCLA, myself and most importantly, my fellow staff at The Bruin.

I can now confidently say I know enough about this organization to last a lifetime. I’ve attended a crosstraining for every section. I’ve given out plenty of advice on how to navigate this place and the vital work we do here. I’ve done that work, covering protests, the encampments and my four beloved sports beats – swim and dive, women’s water polo, men’s soccer and softball.

And most of all, I’ve had the absolute pleasure of talking to hundreds of brilliant Daily Bruin staffers over my four years, getting to connect over all kinds of topics.

The work has been an honor, but it’s the people who create the community that define our newsroom. That is what I love the most. I’m proud to have been able to support the creation of that community, and I’ll miss it most when I leave The Bruin.

It is bittersweet but exciting to sign off as an editor of this paper after three years. While journalism isn’t my goal in life, I will always be defined by having been a journalist.

When I look back on college, it will be The Bruin I think of and remember fondly. But – perhaps surprisingly to freshman, sophomore and junior-year me – I also feel prepared and excited to step into what’s next.

That’s all a credit to what I’ve learned here and the many people I’ve learned from.
