The Undergraduate Students Association Elections Board’s election website listed erroneous candidate platforms for at least four candidates ahead of the spring USAC election.
The elections board has a list of USAC election candidates, their autobiographical statements and their platforms on its website. Prospective voters can use the page to learn about candidates’ backgrounds and plans for next year’s council ahead of this year’s USAC elections before voting begins May 8.
But for some candidates, as of 4:11 p.m. Tuesday, the elections board linked the wrong platform document – which is meant to inform voters about candidates’ values and priorities.
Elections Board Vice Chair Carl Maier said in an emailed statement Tuesday evening that the board is not aware of any incorrect platform documents but added that it is looking into the issue.
The candidate platforms link for Diego Chavez, a candidate for USAC external vice president, sends users to a document that appears to be Student Wellness commissioner candidate Daniela Castro’s platforms document. Facilities commissioner candidate Paige Zwerner’s candidate platforms link goes to presidential candidate Jayha Buhs Jackson’s platforms document.
Chavez said Tuesday evening in a written statement that the apparent errors call the election board’s credibility into question.
“I tirelessly worked to ensure my platforms reflected the vision I have for the EVP office,” he said in the statement. “It saddens me to know that my platforms were not published and I feel as if my work is being discredited.”
Zwerner, who has previously run for USAC unsuccessfully twice, said in a written statement that she thinks the election board will correct the errors quickly.
Kristian Suazo is a candidate for transfer student representative, but the link under his candidate profile goes to Kristiano Sleiman’s candidate platforms. Sleiman is not a USAC candidate this year, but he unsuccessfully ran to be international student representative in 2025.
Though Suazo said the mistakes undermine fairness in the election process, he added that the elections board should be given some benefit of the doubt on the errors.
“I do want to give E Board some grace,” he said. “I understand that running a major university elections platform can be very tedious and strenuous, and cause a lot of stress as well.”

The link in the profile for David Escobedo, a candidate for Financial Supports commissioner, does link to his platform. However, the platform document lists Escobedo, a second-year student, as a first-year student and matches his platforms from when he ran an unsuccessful campaign for general representative last year.
Some of the linked documents do not contain candidates’ names or identifying information, making it unclear if more of the documents are incorrect.
The USA Election Code states participants in the election process must treat multiple candidates for the same office fairly. For at least the external vice president and Financial Supports commissioner races, one candidate’s profile linked to the correct document while the other did not.
