When Daniel Leal talks about planning events for students, his passion is clear. From Bruin Bash to AfroFest, he has stood firmly on his campaign promise to deliver high-quality entertainment to students.

Council members were evaluated in these areas on a scale from A to D, with D being poor performance and A being excellent performance.

Leal added that these events create an environment where students can come together, regardless of divisions that exist across campus.

However, this passion does not translate as readily to his other Undergraduate Students Association Council responsibilities – such as transparency toward students.

While Leal said it was difficult to update officer reports because of contracts with performers and confidentiality rules, he seems to have limited additional structures in place to prioritize students’ understanding of his position and commission.

On the other hand, Leal succeeds in student engagement. He said he encourages his team to talk to students at events and in lines for events.

“We definitely make it a point to communicate with students at our events,” Leal said.

A problem Leal mentioned facing was students coming to events but not knowing they were part of the Campus Events Commission. By prioritizing transparency in the coming quarters, Leal and his office can aid in easing this issue.
