UCPD arrested a person for alleged burglary in Saxon Suites on Thursday evening.

A student who lives in a first floor dorm in Saxon Suites saw a person reach into their open window and attempt to take a basket from their room at about 3:40 p.m., said Jeffrey Chobanian, the captain of UCPD’s operations bureau. He added that he believes the suspect likely “got scared” and left the area after the attempted burglary.

Several UCPD officers walked a person – who wore an orange hoodie and appeared to be limping – out of Saxon Suites at about 7 p.m., about three hours after the attempted burglary, and put them into a police car. Two UCPD cars were also parked outside the building.

Chobanian said he could not confirm whether the person arrested was affiliated with UCLA. He added that UCPD officers did not use force during the arrest.

“We did an investigation and were able to track down the suspect,” he said. “The victim was brought to the scene and identified the suspect.”
