Epicuria at Ackerman temporarily closed Wednesday – and will reopen next week – after a grease trap in the building clogged, UCLA Housing said.

The restaurant – located in Ackerman Union – had to shut down its water service amid repairs related to the clog, affecting the kitchen’s ability to operate safely and in accordance with health and sanitation standards, UCLA Housing said in a Wednesday statement. The restaurant is expected to reopen for regular service Jan. 20, UCLA Housing added in the statement.

“The safety and well-being of students, faculty and staff remain our highest priority,” UCLA Housing said in the statement.

Epicuria at Ackerman offers a variety of food options, including pasta, pizza and salad. Students can eat inside the restaurant or take their orders to go.

Raquel Anguiano, a third-year political science student, said she was planning to eat at Epicuria at Ackerman but had to change her plans due to the closure.

“We were going to come here for convenience,” she said. “But obviously it’s not convenient anymore.”

Cierra Anguiano, a third-year political science student, said the closure did not negatively impact them.

“I just hope it’s nothing serious,” she said. “But at this school, so much stuff goes on. It could be really bad, but they won’t let us know until tomorrow.”
