Inconsistency has prevented the Bruins from breaking into the upper echelon of the NCAA in recent years.

And the start of the 2025-26 season has been no different.

UCLA swim and dive earned a sixth-place finish at the Ohio State Invitational from Nov. 18 to 21 and failed to secure a victory in any event at the USC Diving Invite from Nov. 20 to 22. But the Bruin divers bounced back at the Riverside Diving Invite in Westwood on Saturday, sweeping all of the meet’s events.

UCLA Athletics did not provide interview availability for the team’s athletes or coach.

Junior diver Molly Brascia stepped up during the Riverside Diving Invite – which hosted divers from California Baptist, Fresno State and San Diego State – winning the 1-meter and 3-meter dives with 274.30 and 317.40 scores, respectively.

Brascia, who took home two second-place finishes at the USC Diving Invite, was the only athlete to break the 300-point mark Saturday.

Senior diver Eden Cheng – who competed on Great Britain’s 2020 Tokyo Olympics squad – did not compete Saturday.

In Cheng’s absence, other Bruins filled the gap, including junior Laura Fisher – who notched a 254.70 mark to win the platform competition and a 244.80 mark to earn fourth place in the 1 meter. Junior Maya Shtolzberg also earned fifth place in the 1-meter dive with a 225.30 tally.

At the Ohio State Invitational, UCLA fell to Ohio State, Indiana, Louisville, Purdue and Kentucky but defeated Cincinnati, Penn State, Yale and Northwestern to take sixth place.

While standout performances from senior Rosie Murphy and a relay squad led the Bruins to two school records, UCLA failed to place in the top eight in most of its events.

Murphy has undoubtedly led the Bruins all season, setting five school records – including three at the U.S. Open in Austin, Texas, in early December. Murphy, who earned Big Ten Swimmer of the Week honors after setting a school record in the 200 backstroke against then-No. 18 Arizona State in October, secured the Bruins’ only win of the Ohio State Invitational with a 1:54.89 mark in the 200 IM and took second place in the 200 backstroke with a 1:52.60 mark.

Freshman Jada Duncan – who earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors for her five combined event wins in UCLA’s draw against ASU and loss to Arizona – has also stepped up as one of the Bruins’ strongest swimmers.

Duncan finished sixth in the 100 free with a 48.29 time, fourth in the 100 butterfly at 51.79 and contributed to the Bruins’ school record-setting 200 free relay alongside sophomore Claudia Yovanovich, junior Sarah Bennetts, and sophomore Anna Wetteland – which earned third place.

The Bruins will kick off a new calendar year of competition Jan. 3 at a dual meet in La Jolla versus UC San Diego.
