Andrew Martinez, an executive board member of AFSCME Local 3299, said a staffing crisis across the UC is impacting campus services such as facilities management and dining. Martinez, a senior custodian who has worked at UCLA for more that 21 years, added that an affordability crisis has forced workers to sleep in their cars.
“Our working conditions are your learning conditions,” he said. “Your classrooms aren’t being cleaned because there’s lack of staffing. Dining Halls –they’re not able to be served meals as quickly or prepared as quickly because there’s a lack of staffing.”
