The Daily Bruin accepted 201 new interns for its fall 2025 hiring season.
Daily Bruin’s fall applications opened Sept. 8 on the UCLA Student Media application portal and closed Oct. 6 at noon. There were 1,176 started applications at the end of the fall 2025 recruitment season.
The Online section hired 27 interns – the most of any section – while Opinion accepted the second largest class with 20 interns.
Students graduating in 2029 made up the largest portion of the Fall 2025 intern cohort, followed by the classes of 2027 and 2028, which were tied for second. The Bruin saw a slight increase in philosophy and electrical engineering students within the intern cohort.
The Bruin continued recruitment initiatives from previous years, including tabling at the Enormous Activities Fair, Transferpalooza and Student Media Open House. The Outreach team introduced new online and in-person initiatives to increase community engagement. Outreach also hosted multiple virtual information sessions, including a main information session and dedicated sessions for the multimedia and writing sections, and released section descriptions to explain what interns would gain from their time at the Daily Bruin.
Daily Bruin staff participated in a variety of welcome events and orientations during week zero. Staff tabled at the Graduate Student Orientation Sept. 18 and flyered at events like the Westwood Village Block Party. The events offered resources and interactive activities for new students to connect with their peers. Staff members also spoke at department specific events, such as the Comparative Literature Welcome Event, Communication Department Orientation and more.
The 2025-26 Outreach Director Kayla Williams said this recruitment season was special because Daily Bruin was able to make connections with the broader UCLA community.
“Recruitment provided us with an opportunity to learn more about the community that the Bruin serves, and we are all extremely grateful for the event organizers and department advisors that spread the word about our newspaper,” Williams said.
