LAPD closed part of Sunset Boulevard on Thursday night while searching for a murder suspect about a quarter mile away from UCLA’s campus in Westwood.

An LAPD officer told the Daily Bruin at 8:15 p.m. that the suspect had been caught. Sunset Boulevard reopened for traffic at the same time.

Over 15 LAPD vehicles, including a helicopter, were stationed near the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Glenroy Avenue as of 6:30 p.m.

Officers in bulletproof gear and helmets, carrying what appeared to be assault rifles, searched part of Sunset Boulevard around a quarter mile from UCLA’s campus.

Traffic was blocked in both directions on Sunset Boulevard for over two hours.

Officers also released at least one dog into the area to search for the suspect.

Three other helicopters, including one from LAPD and others from media organizations, circled above Westwood for multiple hours.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
