UCLA men’s basketball hired former Bruin guard David Singleton as the newest addition to the squad’s coaching staff, coach Mick Cronin announced Wednesday afternoon.
Singleton – who played for UCLA from 2018-2023 and set the program record for most games played with 164 – will join the staff as an assistant coach after spending the last two seasons playing for the College Park Skyhawks, the Atlanta Hawks’ G League affiliate.
The Los Angeles local is replacing Brendyn Taylor, who held the role for the past two seasons and was hired in May to take the same position at Loyola Chicago.
“It’s obvious that David loves UCLA. Coaching him through his last four years here, I saw him develop into a selfless teammate who always put in the work,” Cronin said in a written statement. “He’s always had his eye on becoming a coach, and we are thrilled that we can add him to our staff. He understands what it takes to get a team to perform at a high level.”

Through five years donning the blue and gold, Singleton averaged 5.7 points and 1.8 rebounds per game. He was integral to three consecutive March Madness runs from 2021-2023, including two Sweet Sixteen appearances and the miraculous First Four to Final Four stretch.
Singleton was indispensable to the team during his fifth year, when he averaged nine points per game while shooting a team-leading 42.4% from beyond the arc – which ranked third in the Pac-12.
The former guard brings a wealth of experience to the program and is very familiar with Cronin’s scheme, having played four of his five seasons in Westwood under the Bruins’ current head honcho.
He also joins a coaching staff that will helm a squad which returns three starters from last year, alongside a new transfer and 2024-2025 Mountain West Player of the Year in Donovan Dent.
“I’m very grateful to coach Cronin and to UCLA for this opportunity to return to my alma mater and contribute to the program,” Singleton said in a written statement. “My time here as a student-athlete was extremely special, and I’m looking forward to adding to the legacy and program in any way that I can as an assistant coach.”
