UCLA men’s basketball junior guard Dylan Andrews entered the transfer portal Wednesday afternoon, according to On3.
Andrews, who first assumed starting duties under coach Mick Cronin as a sophomore, struggled to maintain his offensive rhythm in the 2024-2025 season, ultimately failing to replicate his breakout sophomore campaign.
The starting floor general closed out his sophomore season with team-leading figures in 12.9 points per game while logging 35.2 minutes a contest – the third-highest mark in the Pac-12. And after a steady regular season, Andrews’ output only escalated in the postseason. He averaged 27.5 points, three rebounds and three assists through two Pac-12 tournament games – including a career-high 31 points against Oregon on March 13, 2024.
Closing out the 2023-2024 season averaging 17.1 points through the final 14 contests, Andrews was set to take the reins under Cronin for his junior campaign. However, he never quite lived up to preseason expectations.
Cronin’s starting point guard managed just one 20-point game through the season – against Prairie View A&M – stringing together just nine double-digit games compared to the previous year’s 20. And after struggling to find his footing through 32 games and 29 starts, Andrews finished the season – his final in Westwood – garnering 6.9 points, 1.6 rebounds and 3.4 assists on 37.9% shooting from the field.
Andrews, a four-star recruit out of Gardena, California, was a four-year varsity basketball letterwinner in high school and ranked No. 40 in his class according to 247Sports. Tabbed a top-10 point guard by 247Sports and ESPN as a senior at Compass Prep School, Andrews averaged 3.3 points, 1.1 rebounds and 0.9 assists as a freshman at UCLA, playing alongside former Bruin greats Jaime Jaquez Jr., Jaylen Clark and Tyger Campbell.
UCLA’s starting playmaker has joined forwards sophomore Devin Williams and junior William Kyle III in the transfer portal. Williams saw limited action in his freshman season, appearing in 10 games and averaging 1.4 points and 0.7 rebounds, before redshirting the 2024-2025 campaign.
Kyle, on the other hand, transferred from South Dakota State and also faced a slump in production, posting just 2.9 points per game as a Bruin compared to 8.9 and 13.1 as freshman and sophomore, respectively, with the Jackrabbits.
Cronin is reportedly targeting New Mexico guard Donovan Dent – this past year’s Mountain West Conference Player of the Year – who entered the portal Tuesday.
