Marathons were run across Los Angeles this weekend.
For more than 26,000 Angelenos, the race spanned Elysian Park to Century City.
But the Bruins’ track was the 240 feet around the Easton Stadium bases, circled 15 times over the weekend by a baserunner in blue and gold.
No. 5 UCLA softball (27-4, 3-0 Big Ten) left Purdue (15-12, 0-3) in the dust, sweeping the three-game series 6-0 Friday, 2-1 Saturday and 7-5 Sunday.
While the Bruins’ freshmen got the 2025 campaign off to a hot start, the junior class is setting the pace early in conference play.
Infielder Jordan Woolery launched her 13th and 14th home runs of the season over the weekend – four more than the junior recorded throughout all of last year. Woolery is tied for the most RBIs in the nation with a career-high 48 in 2025 – and the Bruins still have 25 regular season games left.

“Our motto is ‘aim higher,’” said coach Kelly Inouye-Perez. “When you see players that put the work in, have confidence and skill, then you get to see some big moments – like what Jordan is doing for us.”
Woolery wasn’t alone, either – junior utility Megan Grant hit a home run to tie Sunday’s affair, paving the way for UCLA’s comeback.
After a series of run-rule victories and a 6-0 shutout Friday night, the Bruins found themselves down 5-1 heading into the bottom of the third. But senior utility Savannah Pola hit a game-winning solo shot in the sixth that sealed the Boilermakers’ fate.
“It’s so fun to watch her (Pola) compete this season,” Inouye-Perez said. “She’s so talented, and she works so hard, but to see her finish strong and enjoy it – she’s also a great leader – makes the whole culture of the program.”
While the home team racked up runs, UCLA’s prowess from the circle limited Purdue’s offense – notably through the first two games, in which visiting batters recorded just five total hits. Junior pitcher Taylor Tinsley struck out 10 Boilermakers across five innings Friday before punching out another Saturday in her second save of 2025, earning her Big Ten Pitcher of the Week honors Monday. This year alone, Tinsley has recorded double-digit strikeouts thrice, encompassing half her career total.

Kaitlyn Terry, who boasts a team-best 1.44 ERA and a 12-3 record, appeared twice over the weekend – starting Saturday and relieving freshman pitcher Addisen Fisher on Sunday. While the sophomore pitcher/outfielder allowed the first run against the Bruins in more than a week, she tacked 12 strikeouts onto her team-leading total of 92 on the season.
“It’s great, but knowing that I do have somebody younger and older than me,” Terry said, referring to Fisher and Tinsley. “Bouncing off of them and knowing that they’re going to come at the right time.”
Though UCLA has a winning record against top-25 teams, its first season in a new conference brings forward new opponents. The Bruins may have boasted multiple Pac-10/12 championship titles, but the Big Ten is a challenge they’ve never faced.
“It’s different than Pac-12 for sure – it’s a new experience for us,” Woolery said. “We made a good first impression on the Big Ten this weekend, so hopefully, carrying on the Bruin legacy throughout the Big Ten for the rest of the year, too.”
UCLA will continue Big Ten play with a two-game series against Iowa, beginning Saturday.
Looking for a Native American individual to spend time with my 6-year-old daughter twice a week for 2-3 hours. Activities can include talking, playing, and engaging in fun, interactive experiences. She is growing up in a Russian-speaking household and currently attends kindergarten, where she speaks English. However, she needs more practice since Russian is the primary language spoken at home.
