Correction: The original version of this post incorrectly used he/him pronouns to refer to Charlie Walner. In fact, Walner uses they/them pronouns.

Charlie Walner a fourth-year political science and labor studies student who also works at Jimmy’s Coffeehouse, said they joined the picket line in Bruin Plaza to show their support for a union co-worker who is on strike. Walner, who led chants on a megaphone as part of the demonstration, added that they believe student workers are also not treated fairly at UCLA.
“I have a co-worker who is in AFSCME (Local 3299),” Walner said “I hear the stuff she has to go through in terms of how little she gets compensated for what she does, the amount she gets charged for parking, for health care and just generally the lack of respect this university gives her.”
