UCPD arrested a person for drug possession Saturday morning.

Police arrested the suspect during a bicycle stop at La Grange Avenue and Pontius Avenue in Sawtelle at 3 a.m. Saturday, said Jeffrey Chobanian, UCPD’s acting captain of the administrative bureau, in an emailed statement.

The person was arrested as a felon for alleged possession of pepper spray, methamphetamine, alprazolam and drug paraphernalia, according to a post by UCPD on the social media platform X. Drug paraphernalia is any equipment used to conceal, consume or produce illegal drugs, according to the Department of Justice website.

The post included a photo of the possessions confiscated from the suspect. The same X post specified that there was a warrant out for the suspect for shoplifting.

The person was not affiliated with UCLA, and there was no threat to public safety, Chobanian said in the emailed statement.

“UCLA owns properties throughout West Los Angeles,” Chobanian said in the emailed statement. “Its police officers routinely patrol both on and off campus.”
