Classes at UCLA will remain remote Monday, with the UCLA Academic Senate yet to make a decision for the rest of week two, UCLA Chancellor Julio Frenk said in a Friday afternoon campuswide email.

A change.org petition calling on the UCLA Academic Senate to approve remote instruction until Jan. 17 has now reached nearly 3,000 signatures as of 9:00 a.m. Saturday. The petition also asks the UCLA administration to announce the decision early so students can make travel plans.

All 15 members of the Undergraduate Students Association Council signed a letter demanding classes for week two be moved to remote instruction. The letter, published on Instagram Friday evening, cites air quality and students mental health among reasons council members want classes to be moved online.
