According to UCLA’s air quality website, campus’ air quality index currently has a “moderate” score of 61, falling from its peak of 141 earlier today. However, Yifang Zhu, a professor of environmental health sciences, said that even a “healthy” air quality index does not necessarily mean outdoor conditions are safe.
“It doesn’t really mean the air is completely healthy because there’s many other things that those sensors couldn’t measure,” she said.
She added that students in Westwood should stay indoors, keep windows closed, run air purifiers, wear KN95 masks and avoid strenuous exercise.
