The proximity of fires, winds, air quality and accessibility of campus are evaluated when making evacuation decisions, a UCLA Office of Emergency Management spokesperson said in an emailed statement. He added that emergency communications – including either shelter-in-place orders or evacuation orders – would be agreed in conjunction with city, county and state officials and communicated by the BruinAlert system.
“Together with local fire authorities and campus leadership, we would determine whether circumstances call for the full or partial evacuation of the campus is necessary or if it is safer for campus residents and others at UCLA to remain in place,” the spokesperson said in the statement.
If an evacuation order is issued, students should follow posted instructions from BruinPost announcements, the Bruin Safe Online website and residential life staff, the spokesperson said in the statement.
“If an evacuation warning or evacuation order is issued, UCLA will work closely with the Unified Command and the City of Los Angeles Emergency Operations Center to ensure the safety of all students and evacuate them off campus and out of the area if necessary,” he said in the statement.
