Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell said at the 5 p.m. press conference that his department is hoping to restore safety and normalcy as soon as possible. LAPD is continuing to deter looting alongside the National Guard, McDonnell said.

LA County Sheriff Robert Luna added that nearly 500 deputies from his department are working on traffic control and looter suppression. There will be more curfews in areas that have had evacuation orders, Luna said.
