Mayor Karen Bass said at the 5 p.m. press conference that she is already looking to rebuild areas impacted by the fires. She added that leaders intend to eliminate red tape that could otherwise impact rebuilding.

“We will clear the way to rebuild and open our small businesses and provide assistance to make it through these closures,” she said in the conference.

A spokesperson for the Federal Emergency Management Agency said the federal government hopes to assist the city in rebuilding. Temporary evacuation costs, longer-term lodging costs and home repairs can be financed through FEMA programs, the spokesperson said at the conference.
