Los Angeles Fire Department Chief Kristin Crowley said at the 5 p.m. press conference that she is able to confirm two fatalities relating to the Pacific Palisades fire. The federal government has been directed by President Joe Biden to cover 100% of disaster response costs relating to the fires, Mayor Karen Bass added.

Bass also said evacuation orders, including in the Pacific Palisades, have the force of a curfew – meaning people must not return to the area. The National Guard is also taking on nonemergency roles in response to the fires, Bass said.
