Red Flag Warnings – which indicate potential extreme wildfire behavior – are expected to stay in place until at least 6:00 p.m. Friday, according to a 11:53 a.m. Palisades fire situation update. Wind speeds are expected to diminish Thursday afternoon and then increase in the evening, according to the update, which was published by Cal Fire.

“There is a 30% chance of strong Santa Ana winds occurring Monday night and into Tuesday,” the update said.

Undergraduate classes at UCLA are cancelled for Thursday and Friday, with graduate classes moved to remote instruction. The UCLA Academic Senate is yet to make a decision about classes for next week.

The update also said it is likely that over 1,000 structures – which include residential houses, workplaces and vehicles – have been destroyed by the Palisades fire. People can attend evacuation centers, including in Westwood, for assistance.
