Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna said at the 8 a.m. press conference that over 400 members of his department are deployed to fire-related activities. He said many of his deputies are giving humanitarian assistance and helping people who chose not to evacuate despite receiving warnings.

Luna said people who do not evacuate after hearing an evacuation order for their area will be arrested and charged with at least a misdemeanor, including during the daytime. He added that his department has made 20 arrests related to people taking advantage of the fires and fire evacuations.

“This morning, we are up to 20 individuals who chose to go into our areas and deprive these poor people who have been through so much of their property,” Luna said at the conference.

The California National Guard is also on standby for policing operations, he said.
