At an 8 a.m. press conference, LA County Board of Supervisors Chair Kathryn Barger said she is hopeful for firefighting efforts now that wind speeds have lowered and aerial water drops have restarted. She added that she appreciates firefighting efforts and corporate donations to assist evacuees.
“While we are still facing significant threats, I am hopeful that the tide is turning,” Barger said at the conference.
An additional shelter for evacuees at the Pomona Fairplex has also opened, Barger said, adding that a Cal Fire team has now been assigned to do victim searches and damage inspections around the fire, which began in Pasadena and Altadena.
“Altadena is a resilient community,” she said at the conference. “They have seen some significant battles before, but the scale of the impact today is larger than anything that I have seen in my career.”
