School of Theater, Film and Television Dean Brian Kite will be UCLA’s next dean and vice provost of graduate education.
In a Dec. 20 announcement, then-Interim Chancellor Darnell Hunt announced that Kite, who had been TFT dean since November 2023 – and, prior to that, the interim dean since 2020 – would be appointed to the role effective Feb. 1 or earlier. Kite replaces now-former Dean of Graduate Education Susan Ettner, who vacated the position Tuesday.
Hunt thanked Ettner for her work as dean in the announcement and expressed his confidence in Kite’s ability to lead the Division of Graduate Education.
“Throughout his tenure at UCLA, Dean Kite has been an active and engaged member of the campus community,” Hunt said in the message.
Kite, who has been a professor of directing at UCLA since 2015, was previously the producing artistic director of the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts.
Kite will be responsible for administrative oversight over the Division of Graduate Education and will report to Hunt – who returned to his position as executive vice chancellor and provost Thursday when Julio Frenk assumed the university’s chancellorship.
