As results continue to be called, UCLA will be providing resources for students to navigate these experiences, such as debrief sessions for students living on the Hill, said Maia Ferdman – the deputy director of the Bedari Kindness Institute, which manages the UCLA Dialogue Across Difference initiative. Ferdman is also a former Daily Bruin Opinion columnist.

The initiative, launched in January 2023 by then-Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost and now-Interim Chancellor Darnell Hunt, was involved in hosting workshops and talks addressing protests last year about the ongoing Israel-Hamas war. Ferdman said she would advise students to take care of themselves tonight and recognize that they may be feeling extreme emotions.

“Sometimes we’re not always in a space to dialogue across difference, and that’s OK,” she added.
