Californians have voted to pass Proposition 36, according to the LA Times. The proposition will increase penalties for drug and theft crimes, turning some misdemeanors into felonies. The California Legislative Analyst’s Office estimates the policy changes will cost “several tens of millions of dollars to the low hundreds of millions of dollars each year.”
