LIVE FEED:
7:17 p.m. – In an emailed statement, a UCPD spokesperson said SJP violated university time, place and manner policies by protesting in Dickson Court North and outside the Broad Art Center. They added that the group refused to comply with university requests to move to a designated free-speech area and stop using amplified sound.
The spokesperson also said UCPD used a drone in cooperation with a neighboring police agency to monitor the protest. A second drone above the UCLA campus was not associated with UCPD.

6:23 p.m. – Around 200 organizers from Bruins for Israel converged at UCLA Hillel on Hilgard Avenue around 6:15 p.m. for a “silent walk” through campus to recognize the one-year anniversary of the Oct. 7 attacks on Israel by the Palestinian political party and militant group Hamas.
6:18 p.m. – An organizer for the event said to expect “much, much more” this week from pro-Palestine protesters. In an Instagram post, Students for Justice in Palestine and the Palestine Solidarity Collective at UCLA had previously said they planned a “week of rage.”
6:14 p.m. – UCPD said on X that people should expect traffic delays on Charles E. Young Drive East at Murphy Hall because of an ongoing demonstration. The demonstration – hosted by Students for Justice in Palestine at UCLA – largely took place in Dickson Court.

5:46 p.m. – Around 5:40 p.m., protesters converged at the entrance to Murphy Hall, chanting, “UC divest.” Private security has formed a barricade using bicycles to block the entrance to the building.
5:37 p.m. – An organizer announced the march would resume. Protesters are now saying chants that include, “Israel is a terrorist state,” and have begun marching south from the Broad Art Center.
5:29 p.m. – An organizer announced the march would resume around 5:20 p.m. Protesters are now saying chants that include, “Israel is a terrorist state,” and have begun marching east from the Broad Art Center.

5:04 p.m. – In a tweet at 5:04 p.m., UCPD announced that some walkways around Wilson Plaza have been closed for a scheduled event at the Fowler Museum. The event in question is the reading of a verbatim play about Oct. 7, hosted by the Dortort Center for Creativity in the Arts at Hillel.
5:00 p.m. – At 5 p.m., around 200 pro-Palestine protesters marched toward Broad Art Center.

11:26 a.m. – In a post on the social platform X, the UCLA Police Department shared information about the university Time, Place and Manner policies, along with guidelines governing free expression. In one post, the police department said priority for designated protest spots such as Meyerhoff Park will go to permitted events. In a separate post, the department also said protesters need approval to post signs and cannot disrupt planned events or campus activities.
11:19 a.m. – Around 11 a.m., a person walked through and kicked the flags displayed outside Kerckhoff Hall.
Kian Kohanteb, a fourth-year political science student, said he and security officers told the person to leave multiple times. He added that a permit had been obtained for the display.
“It’s ridiculous and needs to be stopped,” he said.

11:01 a.m. – In front of Kerckhoff Hall, 1,200 flags — including Israeli, American, Thai and Ukrainian flags — have been placed to commemorate the lives lost during the Oct. 7, 2023, attacks by Palestinian political party and militant group Hamas on Israel. According to a sign, each flag represents a life lost during the attacks. “We fly these flags of the countries they (the victims) are from, highlighting the indiscriminate nature of Hamas’s terror,” the sign reads.
