The Los Angeles County District Attorney charged a man with allegedly sexually assaulting a UCLA student at Saxon Suites.
According to a press release from the LA County DA’s office, 41-year-old Jeffery Brewer Jr. – who allegedly broke into Saxon Suites and sexually assaulted a student Friday – was charged Wednesday with one count of sexual penetration by use of force and one count of first-degree residential burglary.
“The brutal and violent sexual assault experienced by this survivor at the hands of the alleged suspect is profoundly disturbing and unfathomable,” DA George Gascón said in the press release. “We are dedicated to ensuring the offender faces appropriate consequences for his actions and that justice is achieved.”
Brewer allegedly loitered outside of Saxon Suites around 1:30 a.m. on Friday. He then knocked on one of the suite doors and was let in by a student, but he exited the building when a student resident asked him to leave, according to the press release.
Around 2:40 a.m., Brewer allegedly broke into another unit in Saxon Suites, where he allegedly sexually assaulted a student, according to the press release.
UCPD Lieutenant James Echols said in an emailed statement that there are campus security officers, private security and housing security patrolling the Hill, and UCPD has increased routine police officer patrols in the area since the incident.
Brewer was arraigned Monday and pled guilty to all charges. He faces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life, plus six years, in state prison, according to the press release.
A preliminary hearing is set for Aug. 13 at the Airport Courthouse.
