Crimewatch: April, May 2024

UCPD recorded 1,353 unique entries in its April and May daily crime log.

University police received 301 crime reports in April and May that resulted in active police cases.

Of the 301 crime reports resulting in cases, 144 were open cases and 157 were closed or inactive as of May 31, according to the UCPD crime and fire log.

Theft and burglary was the most common category in April and May, with 120 reports resulting in cases, followed by 21 reports of traffic and vehicular incidents in April and 21 reports of assault and battery in May, according to the log.

UCPD also recorded 1,052 events that did not result in active cases, with the following statuses as of May 31:

Detail handled: no report: 259

Report taken: 110

Information only: 148

Non-criminal matter: 169

Warned or advised: 41

Canceled (by any party): 130

Victim not desirous of report: 50

Referred to outside agency: 61

Unable to locate: 59

Field interviewed: 7

Courtesy report: 13

Citation issued: 0

Unfounded: 4

Of the 1,052 incidents not resulting in cases, 23 were categorized as rape or other sex crimes. UCPD categorized six events as rape reports, 13 as sexual battery reports and 4 as indecent exposure reports.

Data for this story was obtained as a public record under the Jeanne Clery Act, which requires universitiesto report campus crime data.
